Temperature Sensors in High Current Applications

Advanced High Current Probes, such as the HSP804 and HSP806, are widely used across a range of industrial applications. These probes frequently incorporate Temperature Sensors, such as the Type K sensor, to monitor thermal conditions during testing. This integration of temperature and current measurement enables a reliable and safe test environment tailored to high performance industrial requirements.

Why Temperature Sensors are important in High Current Testing

During High Current Testing, probe interfaces can heat up significantly. Without precise temperature monitoring, overheating may lead to material degradation and compromise data accuracy. By integrating Temperature Sensors, engineers can monitor temperature fluctuations in real time and correlate them with current flow, allowing timely adjustments. We offer a wide selection of probes with integrated temperature sensors, supporting ranges from -40°C to +200°C, all while remaining cost effective.

These sensors can be positioned directly at the conductor. Thanks to their compact design, they integrate seamlessly into various contacting units. This includes Contact Blocks up to 600 amps or in Co-axial High Current Contact Probes with an internal pin. Every sensor used in our selected probes are engineered to integrate effortlessly into your system, fitting even the tightest of spaces.

Types of Temperature Sensors

A selection of High Current Probes commonly integrates several sensor types depending on the series:

  • PT1000: A platinum resistance sensor offering excellent precision and stability. Temperature ranges from -40°C to +200°C.
  • PT100: Lower self-heating and cost effective while retaining precise resistance-temperature correlation.
  • NTC: (Negative Temperature Coefficient) is a temperature dependent component, if the temperature rises the resistance decreases.
  • Type K: A robust and widely used sensor supporting wide temperature ranges. These can be found in the HSP600 series for thermal monitoring of contact surfaces.

Each sensor type offers a balance of accuracy, range, response time, integration complexity and cost. This allows for tailored solutions across different High Current Testing needs.

Temperature Sensor Applications in High Current Testing

Battery Cell and Pack Testing

High Current Probes are commonly used in the charge and discharge testing of various battery cells and packs. Integrated sensors detect potential hotspots at cell terminals, preventing overheating and possible damage. Continuous monitoring enables engineers to maintain stable thermal conditions and prevent failures during testing.

EV Connector and Cable Harness Testing

Thermal data plays a critical role in EV Connector and Cable Harness testing. Probes such as the HSP806 supports Type K Temperature Sensors for thermal regulation during high currents. This ensures early detection of temperature rises, helping prevent connector overheating and thermal stress.
