High Current Probes - Battery Testing

The current developments in electromobility and the rapidly growing field of battery production require completely new contact solutions.

We can provide test solutions used for the integrated temperature measurement for testing, charging and discharging of:

  • Batteries

  • Battery Cells

  • Li-ion Energy Storages

Our contacting solutions are ideal for testing, charging and discharging different cell types. Examples are shown below:

HSP600 series 600 amp probe block with scratch technology. Suitable for prismatic and pouch cells

HSP806 series 50 amp probe block with scratch technology. Suitable for prismatic, pouch and cylindrical cells

HSP862 series 100 amp probe block with scratch technology. Suitable for prismatic, pouch and cylindrical cells

HSP804 series 300 amp coaxial probe with optional cooling and temperature sensors. Suitable for prismatic and pouch cells.

Contact solutions

The new modular designed contact block HSP600 allows applications with up to 600 A continuous current. This contact block was developed especially for contacting prismatic cells and pouch cells and can be equipped with sense contacts and/or temperature sensors according to customer requirements.

Series HSP349/G is a threaded high current Kelvin probe which allows 4 wire measurements with currents up to 100 amps.

Contact solutions of cylindrical cells up to 100 Amp & 50 Amp

For contacting cylindrical cells, the high current block HSP862 was developed. This block has three spring-loaded scratch contacts and one sense pin and can allow currents up to 100A.

Also for contacting cylindrical cells but with a high current of 50 amps, please view our HSP806 series.

E-Mobility Connector Testing

Our HSP111/G-D is available up to 100 A and for a 6.0mm connector. View the series here. This probe has been designed for the EV Testing market. Contact us today for further information on this solution and more series.

Coaxial high current probe

Especially for contacting during the formation of battery cells, for incoming inspection and for the end-of-line test, the coaxial high-current probe HSP804 was developed. It is also of modular design and can be equipped with two sense pins, with temperature sensor or with a connection for compressed air cooling.

Series HSP349/G is a threaded high current Kelvin probe which allows 4 wire measurements with currents up to 100 amps.

Scratch principle for low contact resistances

An important basis for optimal contacting at high currents is an extremely low contact resistance to the test item. This is realized by a scratch contact, which causes a defined scratch movement on the contacted surface and thus achieves best results especially with contaminated or oxidized surfaces. The scratch solution is particularly suitable for contacting battery cells, as the typical aluminum current collector on the cathode side can be reliably contacted. In particular, the occurrence of a wetting current effect can thus be avoided. This ensures reproducible good contacting results.

The outstanding results regarding the current carrying capacity of these contacts were confirmed by an extensive investigation.

Our HSP869 series,  HSP806 series & HSP862 series benefits from the scratch technology.

Spring-loaded temperature sensors

For monitoring the temperature directly at the conductor, we can offer a wide range of spring-loaded temperature sensors. These sensors are so slim that they can even be integrated in various contacting units, for example in the contact block up to 600 A or even in coaxial high current contact probes with an internal pin.
